The Perfect "Up-Sell"!!

You may recall one of my previous blog posts where I had commented on "tweaking" your business in some way to make it more profitable.

Well, today I drove past a business that is using this strategy to great effect.

The business is a simple "Do It Yourself" car wash - you know the ones, where you pull into a washing bay, put a couple of dollars into a high pressure cleaner, give your car a good soap and suds, then pull into another bay, give the interior a good vacuum out and off you go - total cost - usually between $5.00 to $10.00 (depending on how dirty your car is).

Today, as I was driving to a client, I see a big (and I mean BIG) sign on the side of the road saying "Car Wash While You Work - We Take You To Work, Clean Your Car and Pick You Up To Go Home - $88.00".

When I first saw this sign the first thing I thought was "Who would pay $88.00 for a $10.00 car wash", but as I drove past I noticed that the place was full of cars - all sitting there waiting to be washed.

I thought it was the perfect example of people willing to spend big money to reduce the "mundane tasks" in their life.

I also thought it was a great example of a business finding a small niche in their chosen market that they can turn into increased business and good profit.

Remember that everyone has busy lives and there are a lot of people out there that are more than happy to pay good money to rid themselves of the mundane tasks in their lives, so what "little extra" can you provide that will make your customer's lives easier?
